Herbergi / The rooms

Each room is named for something outside the window — or a long way past it.

All four sleep two. Beds are made up with Icelandic wool blankets, blackout blinds are standard because summer here does not get dark, and every room has its own key.

Reyniviður

/ Rowan

The largest room. A full wall of walnut behind the bed, wardrobes down one side, and a reading lamp that actually reaches the pillow. Quietest room in the house — it faces the back.

Leiðbeiningar / Guest guide

What guests ask before they arrive, answered before they have to ask.

The practical page. Print it, screenshot it, or ignore it — but the hot water really does smell like that, and it really is fine.

Getting here

From Keflavík Airport
About 50 km, 45–50 minutes. Airport coaches run to the BSÍ terminal in central Reykjavík and connect onward; a taxi or rental car comes straight to the door.
Parking
Free parking for guests — rare this close to the centre, and worth knowing before you book a hire car.
Check-in
From 15:00. Check-out by 11:00. Self check-in with a key code; we send it the morning you arrive.

Around the corner

Groceries
Bónus and Krónan are the everyday supermarkets and the cheapest way to eat well here. Both within a short walk.
The pool
Reykjavík's geothermal pools are open year round, outdoors, in every weather. Shower properly before entering — it is not optional and the attendant will say so.
Walking
Hallgrímskirkja, Harpa, the old harbour and the pond are all inside a 20-minute walk of the house.

Day trips

Golden Circle
Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss — roughly a 230 km loop, 6–8 hours at a civilised pace. Öxarárfoss, the waterfall on the wall in one of the rooms, is at Þingvellir.
South coast
Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are about 2 hours east; Reynisfjara black sand beach another 45 minutes on. Check road conditions before you go.
Blue Lagoon
About 50 minutes southwest, near the airport. Booked slots only — reserve before you fly.

Seasons & light

Northern lights
Roughly September to April, on clear dark nights. Walk five minutes away from the streetlights and look north.
Midnight sun
Mid-May to late July it barely gets dark at all. Every room has blackout blinds for exactly this reason.
Weather
Layers, a windproof shell, and a look at the forecast each morning. Wind matters more than temperature here.
Two small things worth knowing

The cold tap is glacier-fed and among the best drinking water anywhere — never buy bottled here. The hot tap is geothermal and smells faintly of sulphur for the first few seconds. Both are completely normal, and both surprise almost every first-time guest.
